I would highly recommend litcube, it is a different experience to mayhem where both are awesome so your not just playing one as a stepping stone to the other. comming from X:Rebirth, I want now in paralell also deal with these giants X titles. X3TC v. 3.2c, X3AP v.3.1. On my average i7 desktop 3GH, 6GB RAM with Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS, I have found via Nvidia Inspector a special in-build profile for my grafic driver to use, adding SLI and 4-core usage settings. I either start a new playthrough on X3TC, or X3AP when I get that itch. I’m currently on another playthrough of X3AP, and at a point where I need to go destroy a whole lot of „Terraformer“ ships to finish one of the stories.

For primarily trading I had my best experience in X3TC. X3AP was pretty good, but you’ve got to stay out of the stock market and away from that easy money, unless your goal is to do as much as you can in as little time as possible. As others have mentioned, the learning curve is steep, but it’s well worth the climb. It’s like comparing apples to oranges. To me, mayhem 2 is what Litcubes universe set out to be; m2 is the ultimate LU experience where you can be enemies with factions and still progress, unlike LU. Mayhem 3 is a whole different game entirely and is nothing like LU or M2. The X3TC and X3AP sites were changed over, but the X2 and X3 sites werent. Those two sites still relied on the old method, the database. So just recently ive been working on X2 and X3 sites, making them use in-game files too. They both had their own challenges, X2 being very old and X3 require more sections (lasers, missiles, shields, wares, etc.).

[X3AP/LU] Player Headquarters/Equipment Docks Can anyone provide a fairly high level overview of how I can make use of these installations? I am aware of their existence but I haven’t figured out yet what I am supposed to do with them. I’m not looking for a detailed walk through or anything, just some example of why I would want them.

That would be my default answer to any questions regarding compatibility. The other play testers (Bullwinkle, Sinnerman, etc.) might be able to tell you more. Here’s the thing: LU is very different from the vanilla system. The scripts and mods made in this forum assume that they’re being installed on a vanilla system. In my opinion the differences are mainly in the Type of content that each provides. LU provides a LOT of intuitive scripts,stability and features. (see LU wiki) whilst XRM adds candy in the form of ships missiles etc.

The newest joy in my life is X3AP, though I have played several of the older games rather ineptly in the past. Having spent some time on Roguey’s sites for both X3AP and X3TC, I am overcome with this this desire to play through X3TC as well in its entirety of plots. X3AP has the biggest modding community, all major mods are for X3AP (and a few older big mods for X3TC). X3FL is a sort of „expansion“ to X3, just as X3AP was to X3TC. New story and mechanics, they are technically different games but they are all considered X3 if that makes any sense. For vanilla, I would suggest X3FL or X3AP.
