Why Has Sata Hotplug Been Disabled?

SATA ports connect all SATA devices (HDD, SSD) to the motherboard to establish transmission with the system. When the SATA ports are disabled I have an Asus ROG Strix X570-E MOBO, and an M.2 card. I’ve heard that on some MOBOs if you use an M.2 card you loose two SATA slots (this is what I’ve been told not read). So my question is what two SATA ports are disabled when using an M.2 drive/card? After I added my M.2 card, and booted, the BIOS has not disabled any of the 8 I have a Intel G31-based motherboard. In the bios, I have setup the onboard sATA (SATA ports provided by the G31 chipset) to „Enhance“. According to the manual, this mean the PATA port (there is 1 provided by the chipset) is disabled and SATA ports work in „SATA“ mode. I have using a ESATA
Hot-plug has been a requirement for all SATA host adapters and devices since SATA 1.0, as per section 7.3 of the original AHCI specification. Eventuell hat dein Mainboard da eine Besonderheit oder der Controller an dem die Platten stecken bringt die Funktionalität mit. As I wrote two or three times in this thread, no workaround is needed anymore. SATA hotplug is disabled by default in the latest BIOS versions. Do you need to swap your drives while the system is running?

Je viens d’installer un disque dur Seagate Barracuda 4TB et il a l’air d’être fonctionnel mais en fouillant un peu dans le BIOS (je n’y connais pas grand chose) j’ai remarqué que l’option „HotPlug“ est désactivée au même titre que les autres emplacements SATA vide. There are two EFI settings to check. One, after entering the EFI setup system, look under the „advanced settings“ tab for a „SATA“ sub-section, and under that there may be options to set „hot swap“ for some/all SATA ports. If that’s available, make sure hot swap is enabled for the ports connected to your removable drives bay. I like to prevent internal SATA hard drives to appear as removable in Windows 10 Pro (ver10.0.19546). Look for the SATA configuration options (may be labeled “On-Chip SATA”, “SATA Controller”, “Integrated Peripherals”, etc) and set the SATA mode to “Enabled”. Save changes and exit BIOS. The SATA ports and any connected SATA devices like hard drives should now be detected in BIOS and enabled for use in the operating system.

Greetings MSI Community, I just built a new basic Gaming Build for my Daughter using the MPG Z590 Gaming Plus Motherboard. She decided on an MSI M.2 drive for her primary drive, and got a SSD for additional storage. Everything is working fine, except that the SSD is not showing up in the list of drives. I checked the Bios, and it says that every single SATA port is Naturally, I want to be able to use the 4tb hdd, but for some reason, all six of my SATA ports are disabled, and I can’t figure out why. I know that NVMe SSDs disable some of the SATA ports, but I don’t think that’s why all of my SATA ports are disabled. Are there any performance or stability ramifications for keeping SATA hot swapping enabled? Or any other reasons not to enable it? If not.why is it even an option in my bios?

Hotplug allows you to connect or disconnect a hard drive whilst the machine is on, thats all. And its not a particularly advisable thing to do as it means live connecting a sata power connector to a drive as well as the sata data cable.
