Food and Nutrient Database for Dietary Studies 2015-2016
Abstract The USDA food and nutrient databases provide the basic infrastructure for food and nutrition research, nutrition monitoring, policy, and dietary practice. They have had a long history that goes back to 1892 and are unique, as they are the only databases available in the public domain that perform these functions. Objective: Our aim was to identify healthy, affordable foods and food groups by using the NRF index and US Department of Agriculture (USDA) nutrient composition and food prices data sets. Design: Foods in the USDA Food and Nutrition Database for Dietary Studies 1.0 were scored by using the NRF index.
The Food and Nutrient Database for Dietary Studies (FNDDS) is updated every two years, in conjunction with the two-year cycles of the National Health and Nutri-tion Examination Survey.
