Solved: Getting True Position Of Parented Layer (Just The

Di: Ava

So I have a 2D project of a line that is moving from left to right while the „camera“ follows it (by adjusting a null’s anchor point to always have it in the center of the screen so it looks like the camera is following the line movement). I can successfully attach an object (i.e TEXT) to Hi, Whenever i have 3d objects on my screen, and i move the camera around, some of these objects start moving by themselves. When i stop moving te camera around the objects stop moving. These objects are not animated, and when they move, i notice that the position coordinates don’t change. Thats pro Are you using particular for the smoke? If so, you should place a nul object at the tip of the cigar and parent it to the cigar layer. Then you go to the emitter position parameter and alt-click the stopwatch to enter expression mode. After that you just need to use the expression whip to link it to the position value of the nul layer.

Basically, it’s a custom layer map system like in Trapcode’s form. Global position of parented layer – Quick little expression for how to get the global [x,y] position value of a layer that is parented to another layer. The comp would look like this: Duplicate the layers and move them around and get this: You could even tie the multiplier to a slider control on a null and control the spacing of all layers at the same time. Then all it takes to do your animation is to position the layers and animate the opacity and position. Maybe something like this: Hi there I have the absolute position in a comp like abs_pos = [460,540]; and I want a parented layer have exact this position. It must be really easy but I can´t figure it out. This on position doesnt´t work: abs_pos = [460,540]; fromComp (abs_pos); If you change the layers scale or rotation, the position shifts. I am very thankful for any help..

Hey All! I’ve spent the better part of a day trying to figure this out and am now reaching out for help. I’m trying to parent my puppet tools to a null following a tutorial. I followed everything to a T (so I think!), and it’s just not working. I’ve used the code: n=thisComp.layer(„null_layer_n

The path needs to be drawn on a layer that has not been moved or scaled. You did start a new shape layer and if your preferences are not set to center the anchor point on the shape then it should work. A sure-fire way to make this work is to add a new comp-sized solid and draw a path on the solid. Hello all. I know how to track the position of a child layer, using this expression: c=thisComp.layer(„Child“); c.toWorld(c.transform.anchorPoint) And that works great. But how to track the rotation too? The rotation of child layer is unchanged, but it rotates following the Parent layer, so I need the result of that rotation in relationship to the 3D space. Any help? Thanks! I have a mocha tracked null. I child another null thats slightly offset in XY. Now the child’s coordinates are relative to the parent. But how can I get the child’s true position in the comp? This seems too easy: thisComp.layer(„parentNULL“).transform.position + thisComp.layer(„childNULL“).transf

I have a carousel of icons that spin in a circle. Their rotation is parented to the ellipse that I am using as the rotation parent with your standard thisComp.layer („Rotation“).transform.rotation*-1 to keep them vertically oriented as the ellipse rotates.

How can I copy and Paste exact location in After effects? just like in Adobe Illustrator. Copy and Paste in Front / Back. Hi, I’m trying to make an animation with one shape layer that rotates, and another layer that moves with the rotation, but horizontally. Is

Solved: Keeping a layer upright, despite parenting

I think I maybe going insane. I have two symbols parented, square is the parent, circle is the child. Wherever I position the square, the child will follow. Now I SWEAR this was the same rule when it came to scaling as well, because I’ve used this method whenever I want to scale multiple symbols at Hi! I can’t understand how parenting works in adobe animate. I thought that it have to work like in After Effects. But no. For some reason the parented parts move really weird. Sometimes I can’t move or rotate it. Sometimes I made keyframe and moved the an object but it doesn’t work inbetween. For example, I have face rig. Eyeballs are parented to the face oval [Luke Halls] “Is there a way of working out the position of an offset parented layer including rotation applied to the parent layer? “ If I understand what you’re asking, you’ll need to use layer space transformations. Once you make a layer the child of a parent layer, the child’s layer transformations are in the parent’s layer space instead of world space So what you

Regarding „parent layers“ getting the layer inside the mask to follow the mask around. Hi Guys, I’m looking for finding a way to get the real/absolute position of a layer that is parented to another layer. Through other fora I found the expression of Dan: L = thisComp.layer (“child layer”); L.toWorld (L.anchorPoint); But unfortunately it seems I don’t get it. All the time I enter this expression the child-layer shifts away! I tried many variations, but didn’t find a

Short and sweet: is there a way I can get an object to follow a path whose anchor points are parented to nulls, and with round corners enabled? The only way I know of to get an object to follow a preset path is to copy the path itself and paste it into the object’s position data, which won’t work in How do I copy and paste a layer thats parented and keep its exact position and keeping the parented position. Even when I re-parent it, its just parenting it in its new location. in Ae you usually duplicate items. that’s not the same as copy pasting. try it – Ctrl/Cmd + D and stay in touch with your

Try offsetting the position by 1 pixel so it is a little closer to the camera. You could verify this by selecting the layer giving you problems and the layer just below it and then press the U key twice to reveal all modified keyframes. If both layers are in the same exact position then moving the layer that Solved: So basically here’s what I want to achieve. As you can see in the image above. I would like to be able to move/animate a layer and have the vertex of a shape following it live. I did some search but haven’t found a solution for this. Any help much appreciated

I’m having a problem where, when I parent my layers, my child symbols move in a completely wrong direction. I want the whole speaker and the words to move as one unit while the words slide out. This is my first frame: And this is my last (the words slide out from behind the speaker): I Hi there! I’m trying to animate a layer using a path so I create a shape and I copy its path, then I paste it to the position setting of the layer I want to animate but the animation goes outside of the preview and it goes super large. I put a video because I don’t think I

I’m not an Illustrator person but if you’re pasting in the timeline the paste will land wherever your timeline indicator is. The comp would look like this: Duplicate the layers and move them around and get this: You could even tie the multiplier to a slider control on a null and control the spacing of all layers at the same time. Just parenting a 3-D layer to your reference null Will not match the position. The proper workflow is make the layer 3-D, Hold down the shift key and parent the new 3-D layer to the null, This will match the position scale rotation and orientation so that the 3-D layer is an exactly the same 3-D space. It has always worked this way. I have a carousel of icons that spin in a circle. This does not work because the expression can’t use thisComp to connect the lines. This is because the line points then go to 0,0, which is what the anchoring values become when parented to the null. Now I need a better configuration or expressions to make it work with just a null, three words and three lines. I am trying to create a fluid triangle shape based on the
