I noticed that some vendors use VXLAN design as their validated design in campus network, such as SDA in Cisco. What i’m wondering is, what’s actually the benefit of using VXLAN in campus network / what issue that only VXLAN solved?

I am having a vlxan/evpn multisite setup with VPC-BGWs (the legacy site DCI case) with nexus 9k3 (nxos 9.3.7). The setup works fine, with two nexus in VPC on one side and another two nexus in VPC on the other side.

Each node has an eBGP connection to two switches (ptp subnet /31) for the underlay with an unique Private AS number (ie. SW015 AS 4200000102 — PRXMX01 || AS 4200000103). In the SDN controller I’ve been reading and labbing bgp evpn for a little while now. I’m still not seeing the benifits of using ebgp for the ipv4 and evpn address families. Insead of using bgp evpn address family with an igp (ospf eigrp etc). How many people have these in live environments. Have there been any shortcomings from using an igp? Has ebgp data plane made things easier? If ao, how? The w hen stretching an IP subnet across multiple VXLAN EVPN sites that are extended w ith EVPN Multi-Site architecture, because ingress routing w ill then choose any BGW that advertises external connectivity.
