SUMMARY The evolution of Malawi’s food system is critical to the country’s development prospects over the coming decades. The population remains predominantly rural, rates of malnutrition are high, and the agricultural sector provides a critical source of employment, income and export revenue. However, considerable uncertainty surrounds the food system’s future. Effective implementation of a solid food safety framework is an essential component of Malawi’s food security, improved nutrition, disease prevention, economic development and poverty reduction strategies, at the national and sub-national level. Given this background, a situation analysis of children with disabilities in Malawi was required to inform the development of effective and relevant programmes and interventions for such children.
