San Francisco Opera opened its 101st season on Tuesday with a production of Verdi’s glorious melodrama “Il Trovatore,” an opera packed with unforgettable, back-to-back arias and a saga of mistaken identity, gypsy curses, war, and, of course, doomed love.

Last Friday, San Francisco Opera presented a glamorous Buenos Aires-themed opening night gala, complete with a tango quartet playing Carlos Gardel favorites during the chic tented dinner. This season, SF Opera will offer new Saturday matinee concerts; some of the season’s productions will also be livestreamed on select dates. SF Opera will also present its annual Opera in the Park, a free concert in Golden Gate Park’s Robin Williams Meadow, on Sept. 7, featuring the SF Opera Orchestra and soloists with Kim at the podium. The San Francisco The San Francisco Opera will launch the 2024-2025 season on September 6 with the Opera Ball and the performance of Giuseppe Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera. This is the SF Opera’s biggest fundraiser of the year, and it’s the most glamorous opening night experience. The event kicks off at 5 p.m. with walking the red carpet to an exquisite cocktail reception.
