North Sea Energy Workshop Nature-Inclusive Design

Di: Ava

The past 200 years have seen significant loss of reef habitats in the North Sea, severely impacting marine biodiversity. The North Sea is already a hotspot for offshore wind farms generating renewable energy, but now in the Netherlands, Nature Inclusive Design is one of the ecological requirements in the development of new offshore Resultaat Results of the program are: – Technical innovation for offshore energy technologies – Nature & societal inclusive design principles – Knowledge Consortium & Exchange – Innovative Concept & Planning offshore – Offshore Energy System blueprints towards 2050

Development Framework for Offshore Wind Energy

In August and September 2022, Nordic Energy Research together with DNV and NIVA as a subcontractor will arrange two half-day workshops, with the aim of determining which tendering instruments and partnerships are needed to facilitate co-existence and nature development in Nordic offshore wind farms. This webinar is the first one of a series organised by OCEaN and RGI on Nature Inclusive Design (NID) solutions applied in Offshore Wind Energy (OWE) and related grids for nature-positive outcomes. We kicked off the webinar series by looking at NID solutions that the Belgium transmission system operator (TSO), Elia, could apply in its offshore grid infrastructure The Rich North Sea Toolbox is your information hub for nature enhancement in offshore wind farms, projects in the North Sea, and practical information about suppliers, permits, and more. As a platform created to inspire, the Toolbox can help the creative process of designing new nature inclusive projects. By using the information in this toolbox, sharing it with peers, or contributing

The energy transition needs to be environmentally and socially viable. Renewables must be deployed without displacing vital societal interests, and in balance with nature, through active measures to develop biodiversity. These ambitions are integral to the Nordic vision of becoming the most integrated and sustainable region in the world. The North Nature & societal inclusive design principles – Develop guidelines for nature and societal inclusive building at sea for new offshore concepts and apply these design principles to the internationally interconnected NSE hubs. In this report, Nature-Inclusive Design (hereinafter: NID) refers to options that can be integrated in or added to the design of an offshore wind infrastructure (Figure 1.1) to create suitable habitat for native species (or communities) whose natural habitat in the Dutch North Sea has been degraded or reduced. Here, NID options can be part of a wind turbine (monopile) or an offshore

Nature-inclusive Design Offshore Wind Farms (NiD OWF) in the Dutch North Sea have become a central focus in Dutch energy and nature governance, promising to provide both renewable energy and benefit the local ecology through nature-enhancing design of the farm.

In this interview, Natuur & Milieu CEO Marjolein Demmers discusses the importance of nature-inclusive energy infrastructure, the collaboration with TenneT in the North Sea, and how working together can accelerate both sustainability and the energy transition.

Symbiosis-Inclusive design of offshore wind farms will involve many stakeholders, whose interests need to be aligned. Therefore, we have

Nature enhancement in offshore wind farms

Scour and cable protection are a starting point for nature inclusive design. They create a reef effect, providing new settlement and shelter opportunities for species. By adopting these nature-inclusive design components, the coexistence of renewable energy production and a diverse marine benthic community can be further optimized. Today, our North Sea Energy colleagues are participating in the #wwf event on ‚Expanding offshore renewable energy in a nature friendly way‘. During the event influencial speakers, such as @Paul van Tigchelt, Johannes Luebking, and Lena Kitzing, shared their thoughts on several opportunities and challenges of nature inclusive offshore energy production. Break-out

COP29 Workshop: Power of the Seas Nature Inclusive Design in Offshore Wind and Electricity Grid Deployment Our side event will take the form of a workshop, showcasing the progress made in offshore wind and grid development, and their

North Sea Energy | 3,281 followers on LinkedIn. Shared Innovation Program investigating the potential of an integrated system approach for offshore energy. | The North Sea Energy (NSE) program aims to develop new concepts for offshore system integration on the North Sea. As a pre-competitive Shared Innovation Program, NSE identifies and assesses opportunities for In the Dutch energy transition, the North Sea plays a major role. The space required for offshore wind farms is huge, affecting the ecosystem and all other activities that take place at sea. How can offshore wind farms be designed and used in such a way that they also function as food and energy hubs []

Considering the importance of the Development Framework and the wider interests involved, the Development Framework has been prepared in consultation with TenneT, the wind sector (Netherlands Wind Energy Association, NWEA), ACM, and the ministries responsible for the North Sea, as well as the Ministry of Finance, which is a shareholder (on The ‘Rich North Sea’ programme plays a central role in establishing collaboration with industry partners such as wind farm owners, developers and offshore installation companies. Other actors such as NGOs, commercial companies and governmental bodies are also involved in nature enhancement within offshore wind farms. The willingness to cooperate is high and projects Nature-inclusive design We have adopted an innovative approach to the Princess Elisabeth Island, known as ‘ nature-inclusive design ’. We have been working

The Scottish Offshore Wind Energy Council’s (SOWEC) Barriers to Deployment – Enabling Group established the Collaboration for Environmental Mitigation and Nature Inclusive Design (CEMNID) Project to address two key knowledge gaps with regard to environmental uncertainty in relation to impacts from offshore wind developments during North Sea Energy invites you to an online interactive workshop on CO2 transport and storage infrastructure in the North Sea basin towards 2050. The Rich North Sea programme shows how offshore wind & grid infrastructure can support nature: On-site With nature inclusive design such as fish hotels The use of specific non-price criteria in offshore wind auctions can improve the ecological standards of projects. The Netherlands used this tool in two auctions:

A roadmap for multifunctional use in the North Sea

Environmental permit awarded for Princess Elisabeth Island, a key link in our future energy supply BRUSSELS | Construction of the Belgian energy island will start early next year. North Sea Minister Van Quickenborne has approved the relevant environmental permit. A consortium comprising marine construction companies DEME and Jan De Nul has already started

The use of 525 kV voltage technology and the nature-inclusive design of IJmuiden Ver 2GW will set a new standard for future offshore energy.

Five basic principles are provided for establishing this alignment, in order to effectively implement nature-inclusive design measures. The approaches for engineering nature-inclusive marine infrastructure are demonstrated by defining a strategy to develop European flat oyster (Ostrea edulis) reefs in offshore wind farms in the Southern North Sea. Highlights: Nature positive approaches and terminology in the offshore wind industry were reviewed. Nature-based solutions and nature-inclusive design can be considered nature positive approaches. WHY The North Sea is one of the most used seas worldwide and is home to various functions such as nature, energy, shipping, recreation, and fishing. The Princess Elisabeth Island, located off Belgium’s North Sea coast, will be the world’s first energy island. We have adopted an innovative approach to the Princess Elisabeth Island, known as ‘nature-inclusive design’. To identify research and policy that the Partnership can cover to address concrete challenges for a sustainable blue economy in the North Sea basin the workshop is structured under the five intervention areas designed for 2025: Digital Twins of the Ocean, Blue Economy Sectors, Managing Sea Uses, Blue Bioresources, Resilient coastal communities
