Our goal is to translate our pioneering research into improved patient care, education, and health outcomes. Recognizing a Lyme disease rash, when present, is important for early diagnosis. Although a Bull’s-eye rash is the most well-known and recognizable Lyme Hopkins researchers found that dermatomyositis patients with anti-Mi2 antibodies have more severe muscle disease but demonstrate improvement in muscle strength after treatment.

Recent Progress in Lyme Disease and Remaining Challenges

Lyme Disease is primarily treated through the use of antibiotics. In this fourth installment of our series on Lyme Disease, Dr. Aucott discusses current Lyme Disease treatment options along with the research we’re doing to find new treatment options. A recent study published by the Johns Hopkins Research Center investigated whether these AnxA2 autoantibodies could help predict someone’s risk for PTLD. Results showed that compared to patients who returned to health after Lyme disease, a higher proportion of patients with PTLD made AnxA2 antibodies.
