Kyoto Vs Kanazawa: Which One To Visit?

One of the main touristic regions in Japan covers the central region encompassing Kanazawa down to Nagoya. In between, there are the charming towns such as the UNESCO-listed Shirakawa-go and Takayama. This itinerary provides a guide in how to cover these places in 4 days/3 nights – the minimum duration in my opinion if you are exploring these If you are planning to travel to Japan for one week, and Tokyo is definitely on your list, then which city should you visit for the rest of the time? Kyoto or Osaka?
One Day in Kanazawa Itinerary
Are you touring Japan anytime soon? Then it’s time to explore Kanazawa, the so-called less touristy counterpart of Kyoto. Japan – Itinerary help: Kyoto, Kanazawa and Takayama – Planning a trip with these cities and most likely will fly in and out of HND or NRT. Flights aren’t fully nailed down, but we’ll likely have 11-12 nights and this would be the first part of May after Golden Week. If say two nights in Takayama or Kanazawa would both be great. Kanazawa doesn’t have the big city issues that Tokyo/Osaka and even Kyoto have (At least in regards to tourists). I’ve been to Kanazawa twice and Takayama once and both are delightful. Kanazawa has more to do, but Takayama has a great rural charm.
if you consider going to Kanazawa.. which is also nice to see.. but specifically for the ninja part go visit the ninja temple it’s called Ninjadera. it has lots of hidden doors, seetrough walls, traps etc.. it was really interesting to see.. so far the best ninja stuff in Japan i’ve seen. So would you recommend a night in Okutama, Ome, or Kanazawa the most? Regardless of which one I stay in, I may go from Kyoto to Tokyo via Kanazawa, just for what looks to be a very beautiful train ride.
This extensive review includes futuristic Tokyo, cultural Kyoto, and iconic Mt. Fuji. Travelers will also take a trip high into the Japanese Alps to the quaint village of Takayama, the refined Kanazawa, and the beautifully preserved town of Shirakawago before heading to Hiroshima – one of Japan’s most vibrant cities. What should you add to a 2 day Kanazawa itinerary? Is it Kanazawa really worth visiting? Turns out, there is more here than one might think. With traditional wooden townhouses, intriguing tales of geisha, remnants of ruling samurai classes and beautifully preserved neighbourhoods, Kanazawa 金沢 is usually dubbed as the “Little Kyoto” of Japan. Please consider a visit to Kanazawa, the sooner the better. This is my second trip to Japan. We traveled to Kanazawa at the end of January this year and were enchanted by its allure, surpassing even that of our visits to Kyoto, Osaka, and Tokyo. Before going on our trip, numerous Redditors advised against it, citing reasons to cancel — namely the recent earthquake. I’m so glad I
Kanazawa at a Glance Kanazawa is larger and offers a broader variety of activities. You’ve got three distinct old districts – two former geisha quarters and one samurai neighborhood, each with its own character. The Ninja Temple lives up to its name with hidden passages and trap doors (though the tour’s in Japanese). There’s also a major contemporary Full Itinerary The biggest decision you must make is which city to visit first: Osaka or Kyoto? Here, we’ll suggest visiting Osaka first, but you could easily switch them around. Note that the two Osaka days here are a summary version of our Osaka 2-Day Itinerary. Visit our Osaka 2-Day Itinerary page for full details on those two days. Recommended Tokyo Hotels Mandarin Obviously very subjective question but I´d like to get a better idea. E.g. are Shizuoka, Hamamatsu, Nagoya worth the stop or are they „just another city“? As it´s my first trip the initial idea is to see many places to know where to stay longer on a second trip. I´m also open for other places (which might require a little detour) if you could tell me why you like that place. Thanks!

Toyama vs Kanazawa: Discover which city in Japan is better for travel, food, nature, and culture in this detailed comparison. We did Shirakawa-go for one half day, explored around the area for the next, and had a bit of a rest day. Kanazawa was more of a cute small city, where as Takayama definitely had more of a small town vibe. It just depends on which you prefer! I think either split of 2 vs 3 nights will be plenty wherever you decide. Whether you prefer the variety of Hakone’s natural scenery or the serene ambiance of Kawaguchiko’s lakeside setting, both destinations offer captivating natural beauty that will leave you in awe. Forget Kyoto! Kanazawa is a much better choice for travelers who crave a blend of history, culture, and modern charm without the overwhelming crowds. Going to Kanazawa from Tokyo and staying one night. Next day – going to Shirakawago for the afternoon and then on to Takayama for one night before heading to Kyoto. Possible day trip to Osaka or Himeji – any opinions on one vs. the other or neither? Day 8 – 11/5: Train from Kyoto to Kanazawa Kenrokuen gardens Museum – maybe 21st Century Art Museum or Ishikawa Prefectural Museum of Traditional Arts and Crafts Day 9 – 11/6: Bus from Kanazawa to Takayama Get first bus out and stop in Shirakawa

Takayama: Practical Matters One factor in deciding whether you should visit Takayama? The logistics of getting there. Unfortunately, it isn’t connected to Tokyo by direct train; the bus takes almost five hours. If you have a Japan Rail Pass, the best way to reach Takayama is indirectly: Taking a Shinkansen to Nagoya (which you can also do from Kyoto or Osaka), The one way ride between Kyoto and Kanazawa by highway bus takes about four hours and costs around 3000 to 5000 yen depending on the bus and date of One other thing about Kyoto the fact that Temples/Shrines have way less of a meaning if you are unable to appreciate its structure/heritage by yourself. People who had faith will usually feel their past actions in life being weighted when making such pilgrimage which, makes the trip much meaningful for them.
A first time trip to Kanazawa, an increasingly popular travel destination that’s full of photogenic, historical sights and good food. Here’s My main question is what is the best way to spend the 2 nights between Nikko and Kyoto? Of the 3 towns (Karuizawa, Kanazawa, or Takayama), which one would be different enough from the other areas we’re visiting to warrant a stay? Or should we do one night at Karuizawa and another night at Takayama? I’m guessing Hokuriku Shinkansen is the way to go. I live in Kaga onsen, which is between Kanazawa and fukui. If you visit Kanazawa and come stay here for the night, you can take the direct bus for eiheiji at 9:30 in the morning, then take the bus for the dinosaur museum, visit it in the afternoon and then take the train to Kyoto.
Opinions on Kanazawa and Takayama?
Kyoto vs Osaka: Kyoto is a traditional city, with timeless temples and tranquil gardens. Osaka, on the other hand, is a modern city with street food & shopping. Other option would be to leave Kanazawa earlier and to one night near matsumoto, but I don’t want to rush things to much while visiting Kanazawa. What do you think is better to do? Thank you!
