Colt is doing it right and the Gold Cup National Match is the latest example of high Colt quality. In the past two years I have tested several Colt handguns, a baker’s dozen to be precise. Three of these were Single Action Army sixguns, and two were New Frontiers. The National Match M1911 set the stage for the birth of the Colt Gold Cup. The first Colt Gold Cup pistol, officially known as the „Colt Gold Cup National Match,“ was introduced in 1957. This pistol was designed to take competitive shooting to the next level, providing unmatched accuracy and precision for bullseye target shooting. I’m interested in opinions on the quality and accuracy of Colt national match gold cup 1911’s from the 1970s to the modern day, including the stainless models. I’m very much a sig x-series fanboy and looking at my first 1911.

My impession is that the National Match’s and Gold Cup National Matches of the ’50s and 60s were almost usable for cometition right out of the box.
