Habitat: American Eels occupy the broadest diversity of habitats of any fish species, using fresh water, marine and brackish habitats. All freshwater systems are used including large rivers and their small tributaries as well as reservoirs, canals, farm ponds and subterranean springs. Habitat use varies depending on what life stage the American Eel is in. Based on these recommendations, the American Eel Management Board developed and subsequently approved this Addendum in order to establish a mandatory catch and effort monitoring program for American eel.
