The Gewehr 98 is 1905 dated and has a stock disc but there appears to be no unit markings on the exterior surface. I have read in a Gun collector magazine that it is possible for the unit markings to have been stamped on the opposite side of the disc that is flush with the stock. I have a depot marked 1905 Gew98 made by Mauser in Oberndorf. I have been told the #8 on the butt plate was for the Ingolstadt depot. I assume these depots were WW1 German repair and/or logistics facilities? Anyone have information on the depots?
