Just built a new PC (high end, taxing games encouraged). I haven’t played a new game since The Witcher 3 and AC Odyssey. I’ve missed out on so many games and don’t even know where to start. If you haven’t played them or don’t know them, it’s probably better to just have it off. You’ll understand a fair bit more if you play Witcher 1 and 2 beforehand, but they are in no way needed to understand most things in the game. Witcher 2 is a great game and I’d highly reccomend playing it, as a bonus it’ll also give a I had previously, a year or so, tried to play witcher 2 but couldn’t get into it (twice). But now after having played 1 I enjoyed 2 so immensely to the point where I couldn’t stop playing. Yes. Witcher 3 has to do with the books more than any of the other two games, which make it easier to pick up without having played the first two games. It’s common practice to beat it then go read the books and/or play Witcher 2 (then eventually replay Witcher 3 to see all the references).

But, I don’t really play many video games anymore and just haven’t got a chance to watch the show. My concern is that, because of that, when I start reading the books, there will basically be no world building and it will just assume I already know what’s going on. But, maybe I’m wrong. Any advice y’all can offer would be helpful. Witcher 2 is also a really great game so if you have the means to play it I do recommend it as well, but it’s not completely necessary. It just sets up some of the events in 3 and gives you a more recent backstory for characters after the books ended. I just got the witcher 3 for 5$ since I heard it’s a really good game. I really want to play it but it wouldn’t be fun to play the game if I won’t understand anything. I have nothing else to play right now so I really want to get into witcher 3.

Yes, you can fully enjoy W3 without having played the previous two. There are a few minor references to the others, but very little if any effect in W3. I did not play 1 or 2 and I am currently level 34. I am totally pleased with W3 and consider it on par with and even somewhat better than Skyrim. Definitely bigger and better graphics.

Simulate witcher 2 save??

Hello, i have a question, do i really need to play first the witcher 2 or 1 before 3 to understand something? or i can enjoy the gameplay and the story without knowing what happened before the witcher 3? You do not have to complete main Witcher 3 story to play Blood and Wine. If you have bought BaW you can start it from main menu as new game, skipping main story, getting fresh level 35 character with equipment. Or once you got BaW you will find new quest „Envoys, Wineboys“ in the Velen which starts the questline and sends you to new map.
